If I were a farmer living in the vicinity of the White House or Westminster (okay, there aren’t any, but just imagine) I in fact would have to take my livestock, some goats and cows, and march on Washington or London. I would go to these centres of chaotic, messy, governmental power, where at this very moment Western democracy is crumbling down overtly. And there, I would just fast. Fast with my cows and goats, not allowing them to drink or graze. That’s what Nineveh did in the famous story of Jonah: they repented, the inhabitants together with all the animals. Even the cows and goats participated in repentance! Do we? And our parliaments, the mirror image of the people they represent?
